Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast of Peru, Moche, Phase III, ca. 300 to 600 CE. An impressive pottery stirrup vessel in the form of a figure seated with knees propped up before them and wearing a wrapped headdress. Hands placed on knees, the figure gazes forward, the large head displaying heavy-lidded eyes, a curved nose, and a thin smile - all suggesting intoxication or sedation. They wear a tunic, loin cloth, and a satchel as the tubular spout rises from their back. Yellow and red pigments create an intriguing presentation for this artifact. Size: 6.8" L x 5.1" W x 8.4" H (17.3 cm x 13 cm x 21.3 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Dunn collection, Ferndale, Michigan, USA, acquired prior to 2004
