Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche 4, classic period, ca. 400 CE. "Birds do it. Bees do it. Even educated fleas do it. Let's do it, let's fall in love!" In the context of this piece, perhaps that third line of this famous song could be, "Even revered llamas do it!" A wonderful pottery stirrup vessel depicting a pair of domestic llamas ( see rope attached to ear ) in the act of procreation, painted in red and cream slip. Note the masterfully designed stirrup, and the attractive color composition of painting the male in orange flesh hues and the female in creamy white! Size: 8.5" W x 8" H (21.6 cm x 20.3 cm)
