Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, ca. 500 to 800 CE. A rare and fascinating pottery stirrup vessel comprised of 2 figural chambers, each in the form of a seated figure with hands held to their ears. Both figures are seated in a crouching position with elbows resting on their propped up knees and huge eyes gazing foreword above naturalistic noses and straight mouths. They wear tunics, adorned with white-painted geometric designs with mantles draping their heads. A tubular spout rises from the back of each figure. Size: 4.6" L x 6.2" W x 5.6" H (11.7 cm x 15.7 cm x 14.2 cm)

Provenance: private Carroll collection, Georgia, USA, by descent; ex-private Jim Carroll collection, Maryland, USA, acquired 1960s
