Pre-Columbian, Peru (North Coast), Moche Culture, ca. 400 to 800 CE. A beautiful necklace made from ancient materials and put on a modern cord with 14K gold clasp. At its center is a spondylus shell pendant, beautifully salmon pink, with an incised motif of a human face. Fourteen large, translucent quartz beads are interspersed with dozens of small turquoise and shell disc beads to create an elegant pattern. Wearable! Size of shell pendant: 1.9" W (4.8 cm); length of chain: 21" L (53.3 cm)

Provenance: private Probst collection, Monterey, California, USA, acquired from the mid 1970s to mid 1990s
