Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, Phase IV to V, ca. 500 to 800 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel with a spherical body presented atop a protruding discoid base with a stirrup-shaped handle and a tubular spout projecting from the top. The highly-burnished surface boasts a cream-slipped ground with intricate red-brown motifs painted atop, and the handle and spout are colored with solid red pigment. A series of 8 enclosed panels of triangular and stepped motifs wrap around the body, and atop the body a large dual-headed mace surmounts a wide circular shield decorated with parallel lines and a central roundel. Size: 4.7" W x 9" H (11.9 cm x 22.9 cm).
