Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, Phase V, ca. 600 to 800 CE. A mold-formed and highly-burnished pottery vessel with a flat base, a bulbous body depicting a charming frog, an arching stirrup-shaped handle, and a tapering cylindrical spout. The frog-shaped body exhibits bent legs tucked against the belly, a frilled tail, and various objects delineated in relief, like a tumi and corn cob, on the abdomen. The protruding head boasts wide circular eyes, a bulbous nose above pouty lips, and a segmented necklace below the raised chin. The body is covered in pale-red slip, and the handle and spout are embellished with cream-hued slip. Size: 5.9" L x 3.8" W x 7.8" H (15 cm x 9.7 cm x 19.8 cm).
