Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, Phase III, ca. 350 to 500 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel bearing an unusual multi-chambered body consisting of 3 stacked pairs of spherical balls, perhaps depicting 3 vertical gourds. Each chamber is connected to its neighbors via slender channels, and surmounting all is a cylindrical chamber with a flared rim, overhanging lip, and a petite basin closed off from the rest of the vessel. Red-orange pigment adorns the yellow-beige ground, and the stirrup-shaped handle and tapered spout are covered in a solid layer of color. Size: 5.1" W x 7.8" H (13 cm x 19.8 cm)
