Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast of Peru, Moche, ca. 200 to 600 CE. Two hollow-molded pottery female figures presenting nude while standing atop closely-held feet and wearing a red-and-white pectoral collar. Each woman exhibits almond-shaped eyes and prominent nasolabial folds, while the first figure has vertical stripes on their hat while the larger figure dons horizontal stripes on their hat. Size of largest: 3.5" L x 4" W x 8.375" H (8.9 cm x 10.2 cm x 21.3 cm)

Provenance: ex-collection of the late Peter Arnovick, San Francisco, California, USA, acquired before 1995

  • Condition: Smaller figure with small losses to some toes as shown; larger figure is intact and in excellent condition. Both with light abrasions and minor fading to pigment. Nice preservation to overall figural forms. Previous inventory label beneath feet of larger figure.
