Description:

Northern Peru, Moche IV, Ca 600 CE. I am not sure what drugs the artist of this piece was on when he created it, but I think I will try to avoid them in the future! Used as a canteen to hold water and spirits - painted on each side with a very bizarre morphed creature that is part feline, part saurian and with a snake for the tail thrown in for added affect. Very interestingly, on one side there are scurrying insects below the creature, along with desert cactus. Large vessel measuring 12" H by 6" D. Provenance: Ex private Malcom Parker collection acquired in the 1950's. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

  • Condition: Body of vessel intact with minor paint wear, spout reattached and repaired.
