Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, ca. 100 BCE - 300 CE. The Inca cherished gold for its symbolic relations to the sun. Master metal-craftsmen, the Inca could achieve remarkably complex details with their skilled technique. This miniature figure represents a warrior lord carrying a shield and weapon. On the backside, note the waves in his coiffure or headdress. On the front, how impeccably the artist captured the coffee-bean shaped eyes, bulbous nose, earspools, and headgear. 3.2 grams.5/8"H ( 2-1/4"H on stand)

Provenance: Ex-Westermann Collection, Germany, collected 1950s-1960s
