Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, Phase IV to V, ca. 450 to 800 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery vessel with a protruding foot, a spherical body, a stirrup-shaped handle, and a gently tapered spout. The beige-hued vessel is decorated with red pigment to form a scene of dense semicircles, concentric circles, and oscillating stripes, all surrounding a pair of abstract, feline-headed creatures with anthropoid limbs, perhaps depicting the Decapitator God. Size: 5.625" W x 10.125" H (14.3 cm x 25.7 cm)

Provenance: private La Jolla, California, USA collection, inherited from family and in the USA since 1984
