Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Moche II, ca. 300 to 400 CE. A fine line stirrup vessel depicting two lords, both with avian beak-like masks and elaborate robes. On a background of a creamy slip, dense black and red lines create the design. During this period of establishment of the Moche civilization, it was important to show the iconography of power - like the lords depicted here. The decorated and molded pottery style of the Moche was a monopoly for the elites in the society and was used to communicate their wealth and position. Size: 5" W x 9" H (12.7 cm x 22.9 cm)
