Pre-Columbian, Mochica Culture, North Coast Peru, ca. 100 - 400 CE. A portrait style face mask handcrafted from a thin copper sheet. Holes surrounding face would have had the hair of the recently deceased strung through, while the slits on the ears would have had ceremonial ear ornaments attached. Face has striking wide eyes, long ears, a pronounced and curved nose with flared nostrils, curled lips, and cheeks. 6-1/2"H x 8-1/4"W, minor losses as shown.
