Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, ca. 100 to 300 CE. A precious copper sheet "feather" or plume made to stand atop a crown. The feather has a single pin-like projection from its base for insertion into the larger crown, a body that flares outward near its upper edge, and a round finial at its top. Archaeological studies have revealed that Moche cities were governed by Warrior-Priest rulers and their societies included metalsmiths, farmers, weavers, potters, and fishermen. We know from examples of Moche pottery that these rulers oftentimes wore elaborate, crescent-shaped crowns adorned by metallic feathers. Comes in a nice shadow box. Size: 3.35" W x 10.75" H (8.5 cm x 27.3 cm); size of shadow box: 7" W x 15" H (17.8 cm x 38.1 cm)
