Pre-Columbian, Peru (North Coast), Moche Culture, ca. 100 to 700 CE. A cast bronze terminal for capping a staff or other ceremonial item with a round body and flaring rim upon which are seated four human figures, each (except the one missing his arm) with something that looks like a vessel either in his lap or raised to his lips. All wear large hats with rolled rims and lean in strange directions that seem to indicate drunkenness. A small, round loop projects from one side. The ingestion of alcoholic beverages had ritual significance in ancient Moche society. Comes with custom stand. Size: 2" W x 2.1" H (5.1 cm x 5.3 cm); height on stand: 3.3" (8.4 cm)
