Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast of Peru, Moche, Phase II, ca. 250 to 400 CE. A charming, mold-made pottery stirrup vessel in the form of a zoomorphic head. Possibly representing the visage of a sloth or spectacled bear, the delightful creature presents almond-shaped eyes, a risen nasal bridge, rectangular nose, and a huge mouth held open to display 4 teeth. A pair of stubby, tubular ears project from either side of the visage, as a cylindrical stirrup vessel rises from the top of the head. All supported by a circular, flat base, the fascinating example is coated in a creamy beige paint with black delineating the eyes, nose, and lips. Size: 8" L x 6.25" W x 9.375" H (20.3 cm x 15.9 cm x 23.8 cm)
