Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche III / Moche IV, ca. 300 to 400 CE. A fabulous hand-built pottery stirrup vessel presenting bichrome hues and a jaguar head in relief at its top. The carinated vessel rests on a short, flat foot, with the classic stirrup handle and spout set at an angle that tilts away from the body. The broad shoulder is painted with linear and geometric motifs in a dark sienna hue on a cream ground. The tall neck flares upward, and instead of an opening, a tridimensional face of a snarling jaguar is molded in the center. Size: 6.5" W x 7" H (16.5 cm x 17.8 cm)
