Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, ca. 400 CE. A bi-chrome pottery human effigy vessel depicting a seated lord with hands placed beneath his beautiful tunic, upraised knees, feet peeking out from the hemline of his tunic, and a white shawl wrapped around his shoulders. His expressive visage features almond-shaped eyes, an aquiline nose, prominent ears, and pursed lips, all beneath a fabulous zoomorphic hat with a delineated head, limbs, and long tail. An ample stirrup spout spans from the figure's head to his back. The figure's wide-eyed expression suggests a tipsy, intoxicated state; perhaps he has indulged in some tasty chicha beer. Size: 6.875" L x 4.875" W x 8.75" H (17.5 cm x 12.4 cm x 22.2 cm)

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, collected from 1950-1960s
