Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, phase III to IV, ca. 350 to 700 CE. A dramatic pottery stirrup vessel boasting a pair of detailed reliefs of 2 warriors with feline and serpentine features of Ai Apaec (also Ai Apec) in the midst of a fierce battle, all adorned with orange and cream slip. Nearly identical, each relief displays 1 figure wearing a jaguar crown stepping toward the other to give a strong yank at his lengthy headdress, while gritting his teeth in determination. The other warrior screams out in agony, opening wide the long snout of his zoomorphic head, and clenching his fist in rage. Both fighters wear bangles and snake-like belts as they wield back one arm to lunge their axe at the other. Size: 5.5" Diameter x 9.3" H (14 cm x 23.6 cm)
