Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche 1, ca. 100 BCE to 100 CE. A kaolin vase depicting a grotesque portrait of a man in red-on-cream hues, his visage modeled with boldly modeled facial features, painted details, and stylized geometric motifs. Surprisingly, the nose of the portrait is actually this gent's penis! Perhaps this vessel represents one of the first caricature portrayals of the Americas! Size: 6" W x 5.5" H (15.2 cm x 14 cm)
