Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Moche, ca. 100 to 800 CE. The beads and copper spacers from this Moche period collar were found together; the beads are made of Spondylus shell, stone, and other natural products. The pattern of the necklace is a later reconstruction. Stone and Spondylus shell beaded necklaces have been found in elite level Moche tombs and Moche copper work is considered among the finest metalwork of the cultures of the central Andes. Size: 12-3/4”L x 4”W (32.4 cm x 10.2 cm).

Provenance: Ex-private Rousseau collection acquired before 1984.
