Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Mexico, Mixtec culture, ca. 1200 to 1521 CE. A fine, hand-built pottery vessel which rests upon a trio of hollow conical legs, each containing a small ceramic rattle ball. The highly-burnished globular vessel displays 13 petal-shaped ribs along the lower body, each alternating between tan and red hues, and the shoulder displays an intricately-incised register of repeating pseudo-glyphs. The tall rim has a slightly-sloped lip which leads down into the deep interior cavity. A beautiful utilitarian example of fine Mixtec pottery! Size: 6.25" W x 5.75" H (15.9 cm x 14.6 cm).

Provenance: private Southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
