Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Mixtec, ca. 1200 to 1600 CE. A fascinating necklace comprised of carved rectangular and round bone beads, greenstone spacers arranged in a symmetrical design leading to a large bone pendant flanked by a pair of teeth, also set with greenstone spacers, and finally white, disc-shaped beads around the back of the neck. Strung with a modern gold-tone clasp. Size: 20" L (50.8 cm); pendant measures 1.25" W x .75" H (3.2 cm x 1.9 cm); teeth measure ~ 1.125" L (2.9 cm)

According to Spanish accounts written during the Conquest period and Pre-Columbian codices with heroic narratives about Mixtec kings and nobles, the Mixtecs artisans were accomplished smiths, potters, gold-workers and precious stone cutters .
