Description:

Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Mixtec people, ca. 1200 to 1500 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery vessel exhibiting an attractive red and tan color scheme that divided the body into colorful hemispheres and creates a segmented pattern along the stirrup-shaped handle. The vessel has a round but stable base, sloped walls, a tapered filling spout with a receptacle on the interior surface, and a slightly curved pouring spout with a narrow mouth. Based on the design, this vessel was perhaps used as a baby-feeder with a rounded, smooth spout tip for teething infants. Size: 5.7" L x 4.625" W x 6.2" H (14.5 cm x 11.7 cm x 15.7 cm)

Provenance: ex-Albert Stendahl collection, owner of Stendahl Gallery, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired before 1980
