Description:

Native American, Southeastern United States, Arkansas, Mississippian, ca. 1200 to 1400 CE. A beautiful blackware vessel that rests on a small foot with a squat and spherical body. The neck flares up and outward to a rolled rim. The body is skillfully incised with a geometric design that consists of interlocking spiraling lines. The vessel also has pretty burnishing marks and light mineral deposits across the surface. Artisans of Mississippian societies created extensively decorated pottery vessels in a broad range of forms, many made for ritual use. The iconography on these pieces offer intriguing glimpses of their cultural and religious beliefs and practices. Size: 7.32" Diameter x 6.75" H (18.6 cm x 17.1 cm)
