Native American, Southeast or Midwest, Mississippian, ca. 1000 to 1360 CE. A fabulous coil-formed Bell Plain pottery jar displaying a round yet stable base, a bulbous body, and a broad, concave neck that rises to a gently-flared, circular rim. Enveloped in a gorgeous shade of deep taupe, the ancient vessel's rounded shoulder is adorned with an elegant motif known as Mound Place consisting of four parallel incised striation that swirl in ribbon-like loops around the jar's neck. This technique was usually only used on bowls, making this a very rare example. Size: 6.5" in diameter x 7" H (16.5 cm x 17.8 cm)
This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report is available to the buyer upon request.

- Condition: TL holes on base and inside top of rim. Collection number inscribed on bottom. Repairs and chip to rim. Expected surface wear with light pitting and abrasions as shown. Otherwise, excellent with lovely earthen deposits.
