Description:

Roman Empire, Imperial Period, ca. 1st century CE. Small but exceptionally detailed cast silver amulet of the goddess Fortuna. Fortuna was the goddess of fortune and personification of luck - both good or bad. Cast of almost pure silver (over 98%), she stands in contrapposto wearing a full length "toga" carrying a cornucopia in her left arm and a ship's rudder in her right hand; her hair is tied into a tight bun atop her head. Small suspension loop on reverse indicates this was a good luck amulet worn to endow the owner with luck and fortune. We hope it worked! Size: .5" W x 1.125" H (1.3 cm x 2.9 cm); 1.25" H (3.2 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection; ex-William Froelich collection, New York, New York, USA, acquired in the 1970s
