Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A solid cast bronze horse upon an integral rectangular plinth - miniature in scale - presented in a trotting pose with the front right leg raised. The horse is delineated with a defined mane, laid back ears, eyes, nose, muscular body, and tail. Horses signified power and military prowess. In addition, they were symbolic of the god Neptune as well as the Roman legions. A wonderful ancient bronze work with rich green and russet patina. Size: 2" L x .625" W x 1.875" H (5.1 cm x 1.6 cm x 4.8 cm); 2.625" H (6.7 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Normal surface wear commensurate with age with some softening to details, but still showing nice delineation of the mane, eyes, and other details. Beautiful green and warm brown patina. Attached to stand through perforation at center of the plinth.
