Lot 29
Roman Empire, ca. 1st to 2nd Century CE. A bronze cast miniature head of a wolf, most likely referring to the legendary she-wolf associated with the founding of Rome who rescued the just as legendary twins Romulus and Remus from the Tiber River and cared for them until a heardsman named Faustulus found them and raised them. The animal's visage is quite expressive with pointy ears, protruding snout, and open mouth. Incredibly detailed and finely worked piece; just look at that incised wavy coat! The artistry and technique involved in creating this finely detailed piece is paramount. Custom stand. Size: 1.125" L x .375" W (2.9 cm x 1 cm)
