Description:

Ancient Near East, probably Iran and eastern Turkey, ca. 1st millennium BCE. A cast-bronze mortar of petite yet hefty form with an inverted piriform body, a squat and sturdy neck, and a trio of ungulates striding around the exterior (large mammals with hooves). Each left-facing creature features a slender, low relief body with a conical head protruding tangentially outwards in high relief with circular eyes and raised horns. Dark brown and light green patina have formed across the exterior surfaces. XRF tested as bronze. Size: 2.9" W x 2.7" H (7.4 cm x 6.9 cm)
