Description:

Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Mixtec people, ca. 900 to 1200 CE. A charming bowl of a miniature size formed from two hammered sheets of copper which are soldered along the midsection. The bowl has a shallow basin and tall, flared walls decorated with a quartet of stylized bird-serpent creatures in repousse and rests atop a flared openwork base adorned with 7 abstract stepped forms with one curling lateral end. The bowl is covered in lustrous dark-brown patina with scattered areas of visible green patina. Size: 1.875" W x 1.125" H (4.8 cm x 2.9 cm).

  • Condition: Repair to side of bowl with light resurfacing and adhesive residue along break line. Slight bending to overall form of vessel walls and base, with softening to finer details, and breaks to tops of some openwork elements on base. Light earthen deposits as well as nice brown patina throughout. Scattered areas of green patina visible.
