Ancient Near East, Assyrian / Mesopotamian, ca. 8th to 3rd century BCE. Finely carved from cow, ram, or another ungulate bone, the miniature head of a proud male - perhaps a deity or elite ruler - with a mesmerizing visage comprised of large, almond-shaped eyes, an aquiline nose, prominent cheekbones, pursed lips, a neatly manicured mustache and beard, and a curly coiffure, topped by a wreath or headdress. A very special piece, replete with impressive artistry and technique. Size: 1.125" H (2.9 cm); 1.875" H (4.8 cm) on included custom stand.
