Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Inca, ca. 1300-1500 CE. The Inca were well-known for their mastery of metalwork. Gold and silver, valued for their ability to reflect sunlight, were reserved to create treasured objects for the elite. Unfortunately, most Inca silver and gold was melted down by the Spanish conquistadors. Hence, this silver figure carrying an aryballos is a rare example. What's more the fact that the artisan depicted an aryballos carrier is wonderful as it also references the Andean pottery tradition! Note the remarkable detail captured in this cast piece! 3.7 grams. 1/2"H (2"H on stand)

Provenance: Ex-Westermann Collection, Germany, collected 1950s-1960s
