Description:

Greece, Corinth, ca. 7th to 6th century CE. A beautiful miniature bowl with a gently rounded base, a squat body, a corseted neck, and a thick rim that slopes gently inward. Around the upper body is a ring of roosters, majestic with large crests and tail feathers. The rim is painted to resemble tightly packed palm leaves. The artist has created the detailed ornamentation in part by removing small quantities of paint within the motifs to reveal the buff ceramic surface underneath. During this time, Corinthian ceramics showed the influence of eastern trade connections with the city - for example, creating art with stylized plants and animal friezes, inspired by Egypt and Assyria. Size: 3" W x 1.45" H (7.6 cm x 3.7 cm)
