Description:

Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A wonderful wheel-thrown miniature krater with salmon-hued designs over a rich, lustrous black glaze. The vessel is defined by a squat ringed foot, a tall body with a flared rim, and a pair of applied strap handles. Brilliant areas of silvery and rainbow-hued iridescence complement the jet-black body color in amethyst, sapphire, emerald, and citrine hues. Xenon ware is a specific type of Apulian pottery, and the style is distinguished by added red decoration over black glaze. Size: 2.625" W x 1.75" H (6.7 cm x 4.4 cm).
