Description:

**Originally Listed At $300**

Western Asia, Dagestan Region, located on the northwestern shores of the Caspian Sea, ca. 1500 to 500 BCE. A diminutive bronze standing idol, with hands crossed over its abdomen and the face exhibiting a bulbous nose and enormous eyes. The remainder of the body has little detail aside from the angular shoulders and delineated male genitalia. This particular style comes from the Caucasus, a little-studied region, with most academic studies done in Russian. These small bronze figures seem to have been integral in an incredibly long and fruitful artistic tradition; they look similar to clay ones created during the Neolithic period. Interestingly, Russian archaeologists have found some examples of these petite idols buried with remains of clothing on them - perhaps why their bodies are so undecorated. Size: 1.75" H (4.4 cm).
