Description:

Pre-Colombian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A miniature, carved white stone seated figure with a rounded hunchback, hands clasped on his lap, and minimalist incised facial details and checkerboard patterned coiffure. Hunchbacks make frequent appearances in the art of the shaft tomb cultures of West Mexico. According to scholars, they were regarded as powerful, shamanic figures, their physical deformities signs that they had been touched by the deities. An endearing figurative work from this ancient West Mexican shaft tomb culture. Size: .625" W x 1.5" H (1.6 cm x 3.8 cm)
