Description:

**First Time At Auction**

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A beautiful stone carved into a flat, rectangular shape with an openwork of stylized scrolling forms - vines or clouds, and a dragon. The stone rests on wooden stand to resemble a miniature table screen, screens were used for privacy, and to help with wind and lighting while using calligraphy. Miniature screens such as this were artistic pieces that scholars and artists used for decoration. Often these screens used jadeite or other stones - this semi-opaque but glistening stone may be a type of aventurine. Size: 2.75" L x 0.25" W x 1.8" H (7 cm x 0.6 cm x 4.6 cm); 3.25" H (8.3 cm) on included custom stand.
