Ancient Central Asia, Pakistan / Afghanistan, Bactrian, ca. 1st millennium BCE. A lovely hand-carved miniature amulet, of a mottled red-orange carnelian with light and dark red inclusions, depicting a recumbent lioness. The relaxed figure rests on retracted legs with a proud head exhibiting almond-shaped eyes, a petite nose, and perky ears. The amulet is drilled horizontally through the body for perforation. Size: 0.55" L x 0.425" H (1.4 cm x 1.1 cm).
