Description:

Islamic, Middle East, Ca. 7-9th Century CE. Miniature glass vessel sits on raised glass base, body and handles form traditional Greek amphora shape. Painted blue glass zigzag pattern applied across middle of amphora and is in stark and beautiful contrast to the black/dark navy blue glass. ~2-1/2"H. Custom stand. Incredible iridescence!

Core forming is one of the earliest glassmaking techniques. Glassmakers shaped the body of the vessel around a core, wound colored trails around it, and added handles and a rim. They then let the vessel cool and removed the core.
