**First Time At Auction**

Lucy M. Lewis (Native American, Acoma Pueblo, 1895 -1992). ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A miniature black-on white pottery olla jar with abstract hummingbirds encirling the sides. The underside is clearly signed "Lucy M. Lewis." The fineline patterns in the style made famous by Lucy have since been used by many Acoma artists. Lewis' designs were inspired by the Mimbres-style pottery of her Aancestral Puebloan people. She made pottery using traditional coiling methods taught by her great aunt and was mostly self-taught. Her works grace museums across the world and she has been compared to Jackson Pollock and Pablo Picasso for her innovations. She was invited to the Whitehouse in 1983 and was awarded the Governor's Award of New Mexico for her contributions to the world of art. Size: 1.5" Diameter x 1.75" H (3.8 cm x 4.4 cm)
