Near East, Egypt / Persia, Islamic, ca. 9th to 13th century CE. A miniature jar carved from quartz (rock crystal). The piece is columnar drilled with a short neck and a polished, smooth surface. This petite jar may have held perfumes, cosmetics, or other precious liquids or medicines. Rock crystal is the most transparent form of quartz stone, prized for durability and clarity which was believed to hold magical properties. Size: 1.06" L x 0.85" W x 1.75" H (2.7 cm x 2.2 cm x 4.4 cm)
