North America, Southwest, New Mexico, Edda Lynne Allen, ca. 1960s to 1970s. A framed ink and watercolor on paper view of the Taos Pueblo in New Mexico created by Edda Lynne Allen who was hired as a teacher in New Mexico in 1968 and established the Edda Lynne Allen Studio Gallery in Santa Fe in 1981. The scene is very quaint with wonderful depictions of adobe houses complete with emerging wooden beams known as kivas, red chile pepper ristras, and ladders for access. Size: 8.5" L x 6.5" W (21.6 cm x 16.5 cm) including frame; artwork measures 6.5" L x 4.5" W (16.5 cm x 11.4 cm)
Note that Edda Lynne Allen later used her middle name Lynn Allen. The following is her biography statement as it appears on her website (www.lynneallen.com):
"Allen's work has been exhibited widely both nationally and internationally, and is included in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art Library, the New York Public Library, New York; the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C., the Springfield Art Museum, Missouri, the Minneapolis Museum of Art, the Vesteros Kunst Museum, Sweden and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, as well as numerous corporate collections.
She is Director of the School of Visual Arts at Boston University and a Professor of Art. Previously she was a Professor of Art at Rutgers University from 1989-2006 and Director of the Rutgers Center for Innovative Print and Paper from 2000-2006. Before coming to Rutgers she was Master Printer and Educational Director at Tamarind Institute.
Allen's work has been selected for over 100 exhibitions in the United States, including the Brooklyn Museum of Art "Digital Now" Print National, the Whitney Museum of American Art "New Editions", the Boston Printmakers, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Portland Art Museum, Honolulu Academy of Arts, among others. International exhibitions include the 21st Ljubljana Print Biennial, the International Print Triennial, Tallinn, Estonia, where she won a diploma award. Allen's work is featured in "Print Now" published by the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
Allen's honors include two Fulbright Scholarships (USSR 1990, Jordan 2004-05), two Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Research Grants, a New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship, a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Grant, and a Pew Fellowship finalist. Other honors include a distinguished international award for a residency at Grafikens Hus, Stockholm, Sweden. Ms. Allen has written articles for the serial book The Tamarind Papers , as well as the periodicals GRAPHEON (Czech Republic) and Contemporary Impressions (Atlanta, Georgia), all publications focusing primarily on printmaking. Ms. Allen lectures widely in North America as well as abroad in such countries as Poland, Estonia, Israel, Russia, Sweden, Jordan, Canada and South Africa. She has had artist residencies at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and the Plains Art Museum, as well as residencies in Canada, Sweden, Belgium, Russia, Jordan and South Africa. Allen received her MFA from the University of New Mexico and lives in Boston, Massachusetts."
