Description:

Southeastern Africa, Tanzania, ca. mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden bowl used for collecting and transporting milk. The round-bottomed vessel has tall walls, a thick rim with overhanging lateral ridges, and a pair of drilled suspension holes with the original leather strap still attached in one. Petite ovoid panels are presented on the exterior of either lateral wall, and surrounding them are several impressed stippled dots. A fine example covered in lustrous patina. Size: 9.1" L x 6.25" W x 5.1" H (23.1 cm x 15.9 cm x 13 cm).
