Description:

United States, Ohkay Owingeh (formerly San Juan) Pueblo, ca. mid-20th century CE. A handmade pottery bowl carved with geometric motifs. In the 1930s, Ohkay Owingeh women potters led the "San Juan Revival" movement, organizing field trips to archaeological sites like the 15th-century Potsuwi'i on the Pajarito Plateau. They studied the incised designs on polychrome redware, often incorporating wide red bands at the top and bottom with intricate incised patterns in the central section. Ohkay Owingeh, a federally recognized tribe of Tewa-speaking Pueblo people, reverted to their pre-Spanish name in November 2005. Size: 9" Diameter x 5" H (22.9 cm x 12.7 cm)
