San Ildefonso is best known as the home of famous potter Maria Martinez, whose creations are valued by collectors worldwide. The pueblo is among the best known New Mexico pueblo villages, thanks to its highly skilled painters and finely polished black-on-black pottery which has been produced since the early 1900s.
