Description:

Indonesia, Nias island off west coast of North Sumatra, Nias culture, ca. mid 20th century. An elegant carved-wood figure of a crouching nude male shown from the calves/knees up. The minimalistic figure presents a rectangular form and corseted waist. Flanked by two sizable ears that droop down to his neck, his square head displays a broad nose with a narrow nasal bridge, two ovoid eyes under an arched brow, and no mouth. A clearly delineated phallus can be seen between his bulbous thigh muscles. The fascinating example's smoothly carved surface boasts a lustrous sheen over a coat of black pigment. Size: 2.75" W x 8.375" H (7 cm x 21.3 cm); 10.125" H (25.7 cm) on included custom stand.
