Description:

New Zealand, Rotorua, ca. mid 20th century CE. Hand-carved in a traditional scoop form with an avian neck/head handle at one end, its coat or feathers and facial details nicely incised in the wood, and round abalone inlays for eyes - quite an impressive canoe bailer with a lustrous patina that has developed over the years. Pierced with double perforations behind the beak, presumably for suspension or attachment. Size: 11.375" W x 3.625" H (28.9 cm x 9.2 cm)
