West Africa, Burkina Faso or Cote d'Ivoire, Lobi peoples, ca. 1950 to 1960. Skillfully modeled from terracotta, an abstract head of a somewhat phallic form with a tranquil visage comprised of coffee bean shaped eyes, a pronounced, protruding long nose, angular ears, slightly parted lips, and an elaborately ridged 'plaited' coiffure. An intriguing form from the Lobi peoples. Size: 5" in diameter x 9.75" H (12.7 cm x 24.8 cm)
