Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Java, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden statue of an ornately dressed woman standing barefoot atop an integral circular base. The figure wears an ankle-length dress with green and gold-colored paint, elaborate wrist cuffs and necklaces, and pointed shoulder ornaments. She holds her hands together and forms a large gap with her fingers - inside of which a traditional Indonesian kris dagger can be held and displayed. Her tiled head bears protruding almond-shaped eyes, a sharp nose with flared nostrils, and pursed lips, all beneath a dramatic headdress with incised details and vibrant pigments. Size: 4.75" W x 19.2" H (12.1 cm x 48.8 cm)

Provenance: private Nevada, USA collection, acquired in Indonesia in the 1980s
